Sue Smith is Lib Dem candidate for Bideford North
Voters in Bideford North will go to the polls again on 10 October to elect a new representative on Bideford Town Council, after the resignation of Keith Bines.
The Liberal Democrat candidate is Sue Smith, an experienced Youth and Community worker who moved to Bideford eight years ago and has been volunteering with St Mary’s Church Friday Diner and with Bideford Connex. She is all too aware of issues challenging the community such as homelessness, Anti-Social Behaviour, mental health problems, and alcohol and substance misuse. Sue says:
‘Having seen at first hand the challenges we face and the potential we have to grow stronger, I am now ready to bring my skills and experience into serving on Bideford Town Council. I believe in creating stronger connections between local government, residents, and local businesses. I aim to host listening sessions to gather input and bring forward the concerns of our community’.
Tackling climate change and promoting green initiatives is one of Sue’s top priorities, who also wants to see lower rents for small businesses and town centre regeneration. Sue adds:
‘I champion local businesses and support policies that create jobs, boost our economy, and encourage entrepreneurship within our community. I hope to work closely with local organisations to push for responsible development of social and sustainable housing that meets the needs of local people.’
Phil Hutty, Parliamentary spokesperson for Torridge and Tavistock Liberal Democrats, said:
‘I am delighted that Sue Smith is standing for the Liberal Democrats. On 10 October, voters will be able to choose between Sue, and a Conservative candidate who represents a party which has already shown how little it cares for deprived communities, struggling families, and environmental protection. Local democracy often suffers from low turnout at Town Council byelections. I am appealing to voters to make their voice heard on this occasion.’
