‘We’ll win it next time’, say Lib Dems
In the wake of the General Election result which showed the Lib Dem candidate Phil Hutty less than 4,000 votes behind the Conservatives, Lib Dems in Torridge and Tavistock have vowed to redouble their efforts to return a Lib Dem MP at the next opportunity.
Calling for new members and volunteers, constituency Chair Roger Allen said:
‘After a fantastic night which saw the Lib Dems return as a major force in British politics, Torridge and Tavistock is now our eighth most winnable seat. We have built a strong team and will continue to campaign energetically on water quality, on health and social care, on protection for the environment and on a fair deal for rural communities. We have shown beyond doubt that the Lib Dems are the only party who can beat the Tories here. Please join us and help us win it next time.’
Candidate Phil Hutty said:
‘It was always going to be an uphill struggle to overturn Geoffrey Cox’s 25,000 majority but that we did so well is a tribute to the enthusiasm and hard work of the Lib Dem team in Torridge and Tavistock. It is a strong basis on which to build for the next election, whenever it comes. Thank you to everyone who voted for me; I have so much enjoyed talking and listening to you throughout this campaign and will continue to do so at every opportunity.’
